Hotlinking Protection
What is hotlink protection and how does it work? When do you need such?
Hotlinking is a widely accepted Internet expression for linking to another website’s images. Basically, if you create a website, some other person may want to use the images you have and instead of downloading them from your Internet site and then uploading them to their website, they can simply put links to your website. That way, whenever a visitor opens their site, the images shall be loaded from your account, thus stealing from your own monthly traffic quota, let alone the copyright problems which could present themselves or that someone may be trying to trick people into believing that they are actually on your site. In rare instances, documents and other sorts of files may also be linked in the very same way. To prevent this from happening and to avoid such situations, you can enable hotlink protection for your site.
Hotlinking Protection in Web Hosting
You can easily shield your content if you set up an .htaccess file inside the website’s root folder, but just in case you do not have previous experience, you should use our hotlink protection tool. The latter is provided with all web hosting packages we offer and can be accessed using the in-house built Hepsia CP. The protection can be enabled in 2 simple steps - pick the domain or subdomain for the website in question, then choose if our system should set up the .htaccess file inside the primary folder or within a subfolder and you will be good to go. You do not need any programming capabilities or any experience with such matters, since there shall be nothing else to do. If you wish to remove the protection at some time, you could see all of the Internet sites that are protected inside the same section of the CP with a Delete button alongside each of them.
